Polar Skate Co.

Polar Skate Co. was founded in Malmö, Sweden, in 2011 by professional skateboarder, filmmaker and artist Pontus Alv. Before starting Polar, Pontus had already made a name for himself through his skateboarding and independent films, including The Strongest of the Strange and In Search of the Miraculous. Those projects helped set the creative direction for Polar: independent skateboarding, DIY spots, distinctive graphics and a strong connection to the local scene.

Polar grew out of a skate crew and a shared vision rather than a conventional business plan. Its early videos put Malmö and its skaters on the map, with a style that felt closer to a creative skate film than a traditional team promo. The 2012 edits No Complies, Wall Rides + Shuv Its helped introduce Polar's approach to a much wider audience.

The brand is also known for its artwork. Pontus Alv's own drawings and the work of artists such as Jacob Ovgren have given Polar a recognisable visual identity, appearing across skateboard decks, t-shirts and other clothing. On the apparel side, pieces like the Big Boy jeans have become favourites among skaters.

Polar's influence comes from its commitment to doing things its own way. The team, videos, graphics and products all reflect a creative approach to skateboarding that has made the Malmö brand a major name in the international scene.
